OK so a bit of photographic licence in the last shot...I found my biggest soldering iron + plumbing solder...it's not quite as small as all that, but it's still not big!

Now are those leads actually soldered to the pins on the chip or not? And have I cooked the chip? And do I still care? Remember than the pitch of the holes in the PCB is only 2.54mm. Also note the bottom right leg is half missing - I cut it off just to give myself a bit more of a challenge.
